The PoetBear Award
is named after Jim "PoetBear" Azar. Jim, was a gregarious HHPA Alumni, and an endearing friend of the HHPA organization and its efforts.

Jim was a creative, outspoken, and dynamic member of HHPA and was a member of Hall/Hill Performing Arts when it all began. He is perhaps, best remembered for his rendition of I Want to Be Happy in the 1973 All Star Review along with Lorna "Cookie" Latham.

Jim was a poet ("Arrival: One or Only?") , successful business man, actor, playwright, friend and father. He leaves behind a wonderful family of siblings, and parents, wife Cindy, daughter Brittany, and the Hall/Hill Performing Arts troupe.

Jim was taken from us on October 15, 1998.
Our wonderful, eloquent friend... We miss you.

Arrival: One Or Only?

I awoke from the red
scrawling my feckless eyes
unable bludgeonings
infancy again
alone and fearless is sight
without recollection
adrift within illerate dreams
of a former alive
revived from life or death
dressed to be dressed
arrested, blessed, oppressed
with a rising and falling chest
there is some point
between the two hales
that isn't in
and isn't ex
when the lungs are quiet
why it happens
is called the mystery of life
until it is solved
nobody leaves the room
