More about Joyce, Allen,
and Tom

Co-conspirator with Joyce Hall and Allen Hill during all of the Performing Arts years. Conductor, in charge of instrumental music.

Tom joined the Nova staff in 1964. Joyce was already there. He had come from Ohio and she had moved from what was then Parkway Junion High as a part of the new Nova faculty. She, Ed Spry (the vocal teacher at the time) and Tom did Music Man and Can Can at Strannahan High before Allen came on the scene.

Arlene Wites

After graduating Nova High School in 1972, I went on to the University of South Florida where I graduated in 1976 with a B.A. in Mass Communications, specializing in Public Relations.

I've been in the Public Relations/Promotions profession since 1979. I have been the Director of Communications for The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale since 1999 where I manage all internal and external communications for students, staff, faculty, and alumni. I head up a wonderful team including a web developer, art director, and marketing coordinator. Working with a myriad talented and creative people is a blast. I learn so many cool things on a daily basis. I am always amazed at the artistic and imaginative talents of everyone around me. Prior to this position, I worked for over 15 years at WPBT/Channel 2, public television in South Florida in a few areas such as public relations, membership, and marketing for the nationally syndicated Nightly Business Report. I still keep an association with the station as on-air talent during its membership campaigns (the person who breaks into your favorite show asking for support).

When I am not working I take care of my husband Jack and two incredible kids – Marissa (who is studying music education at the University of Miami) and Michael (soon to be a senior in high school). Music, the theatre, and the arts are still as important to me as an adult as it was when I was at Nova.

As for HHPA...I am so privileged to be a part of this remarkable organization. It's wonderful being embraced by so many people from all around the country who get together every so often to celebrate music, life and memories.
